Various views were expressed over the letter sent by President Maithripala Sirisena to the former president.
At a media briefing convened by the UPFA on Friday, a letter signed by persons named by the president, in his letter yesterday, except for A.H.M. Fowzie was presented to the media.
The letter read that they do not accept the position of Prime Minister.
W.D.J.Seneviratne noted that it needs to be made clear that the names mentioned are not prepared to accept the post of Prime Minister, but we are thankful for the proposals
UPFA Candidate for Colombo, Susil Premajayantha added that there is no issue in letters being sent and it will not affect the election campaign of the Alliance and the Prime Minister will be selected from the party that wins. He said, we will win so what this letter says is that do not create any trouble after we win, and operate as you are told.
UPFA Candidate for Hambantota, Chamal Rajapaksa noted that it may have been an invitation but it needs to be decided by the people and today the masses are asking who will provide leadership to the nation and they want it to be Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said, and no one is asking for me, so we need to follow the request of the people.
UPFA Candidate for Matale, Janaka Bandara Tennakoon stated that he climbed 99 steps of the Sri Lanka Freedom party ladder. He said:
So I do not think he will push away that ladder and I believe that President Maithripala Sirisena with 50 years of experience and with his own policies, will not work for an animal.
UPFA Candidate for Colombo,Wimal Weerawansa stated:
When you step into the house of the bride known as Wickremesinghe, you must either live the way ‘she’ says or pack your stuff and go away. But the tough marriage that he carried will be put to an end by the people on the 17th.
