Speaking at an event in Colombo on July 17, President Maithripala Sirisena spoke of the need for new retirement procedures for state sector employees.

President Sirisena said that when highly skilled and experienced people who are valuable human resources retire from state service at the ages of 42 or 43, especially in the defence sector, their leaving can be viewed as a huge loss to the country in terms of development.

He added that as a country that is witnessing fast-paced development, retirement policy of the tri-forces must be reconsidered and new retirement procedures introduced in all sectors.
