President sets timeframe for completion of Polonnaruwa district development project

Speaking at a special meeting convened at the presidential office on the morning of Monday July 13, President Maithripala Sirisena instructed officials to complete the Polonnaruwa District Development Project within five years.

The president had instructed that special attention be drawn towards education, health and drinking water during the first two years of the project, which gives special attention towards rural schools.

According to the Presidential Media Unit, seven schools which fall under the purview of the seven divisional secretariats of the Polonnaruwa District will be selected and given priority in improving the education sector and uplifting infrastructure facilities.

President Sirisena had also issued special instructions to purchase the necessary surgical equipment and scanning machines required for hospitals. This project is being carried out under the direct supervision of the Presidential Secretariat and the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat.
