According to election monitors, several incidents of illegal parading after the handing in of nominations have been recorded.

Executive director of CAFFE noted that such parading was seen in Kurunegala, Galle and Kandy. Accordingly, police have taken steps to remove the propaganda on a van that appeared near the Galle District Secretary while the nominations were being handed over. As the News 1st correspondents in the area stated, the wife of a UPFA candidate had been seen in the van.

Meanwhile, police intervention has been necessary as several others also attempted to begin parading. Police has also intervened when Minister Lakshman Kiriella and his supporters attempted to travel to Kandy while the nominations were being handed over.

Furthermore, our cameras captured UNP candidate Shanthini Kongahage leaving after handing in her nomination. Keheliya Rambukwella and his supporters were also stopped by the police when attempting to travel to Kandy by foot.
