England who won the toss and elected to bat at the Ashes Test series managed to post 343 for 7 as they ended proceedings for day one.

Despite the rough start, England’s Joe Root played a fighting innings against the Aussie bowlers and managed to post his sixth ODI hundred. Root who consolidated the innings along with Gary Ballance who played a patient innings of 61 posted a partnership of 153 runs.

After Gary Ballance was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood, Root and Ben Strokes posted a partnership of 84 as Root was dismissed for a well played 134 runs off 166 balls with 17 boundaries to go his account.

Joes Butler along with Moeen Ali managed to post a 50 run patnership as Butler was dismissed for 27 by Hazlewood. England ended the days proceedings as Moeen Ali and Stuart Broad were not out on 26 and 0.

For Australia Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets a piece. Nathan Lyon picked up a wicket.
