The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission says that a programme has been put in place to hold the upcoming elections in a free and fair manner.
Legal Secretary of the Commission Nimal Punchihewa stated that the programme which has been prepared in discussion with the Elections Commissioner focuses on various sections that contribute towards outcome of the elections.
He said that it has been decided to call upon the Inspector General of Police to educate police officers on being unbiased during the elections. Meanwhile, he said that steps have been taken to request political parties to increase their women representation for the elections.
