Chairman of the Sri Lanka Muslim congress Basheer Segu Dawood has requested that Minister Rauff Hakeem prevent the removal of the mosque or to take measures to construct a mosque elsewhere.

In 1982, the area in which the mosque is located was announced as a development zone of the Urban Development Authority. MP Basheer Segu Dawood pointed out for a period of 20 years until the year 2012, there has been no issue over the premises.

The letter addressed to Minister Rauff Hakeem also states that it was proposed in the previous presidential election that the mosque would be relocated to a land close to the Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre.

As Rauff Hakeem is the current minister of urban development, M{ Dawood requests that speedy measures be taken to relocate the mosque.
