Dr. Sarath Amunugama, minister of higher education and research, says Sri Lanka and China have reached an understanding to obtain assistance for the science and technology sector of Sri Lanka.
The minister made this statement upon his arrival to Sri Lanka after attending the China-South Asia Technology Transfer and Collaborative Innovation Forum in Kunming, China.
He said that in addition to the forum, Sri Lanka and China have reached an agreement to provide assistance for the science and technology sector of Sri Lanka. Two universities, namely Moratuwa and Jaffna, alongside the Technical Institute, will be provided assistance by China.
The minister added that Sri Lanka has the petroleum resources for nuclear technology but has failed to use these resources for over a period of time. He said this needs to be raised to a higher standard.
