The Ministry of Environment says they will, within the next week, be handing over the report on deforestation in the Wilpattu Forest Reserve to the president.
Environment Ministry Secretary, Nihal Rupasinghe, added that they are currently studying the impact on forestland under the purview of the Department of Forest Conservation, as a result of resettlement in the Wilpattu area.
Accordingly, the Department of Forest Conservation is to re-survey the entirety of the reserve with the use of GPS technology to accurately identify the area of land where deforestation has taken place.
