Arrest made at BIA over alleged smuggling attempt

An individual allegedly attempting to illegally smuggle gems out of the country has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Deputy Director of the Airport, C. Perindanayagam, says the gems were valued at Rs. 9.7 million. It is alleged that the suspect was attempting to smuggle the gems to Dubai.

The gems are now in state custody. Investigations have commenced into the incident.
