President addresses 10th Sri Lanka Hotel Exhibition

President Maithripala Sirisena, speaking at the 10th Sri Lanka Hotel Exhibition, held at the BMICH in Colombo, stated that he would not try to unduly influence any business or entrepreneur.

He further added that the Minister in charge has been given the freedom to implement their polices and the state policies and that there will be an assurance that there will be freedom for businessman to act as they see fit and that there will be no unwarranted approaches by the president.

He further noted that the time when top level of the government would search for gems in rivers is over and that businesses need to develop on their own in order to have sustainable income.

He further added that the government only expects that these businesses will pay due taxes and that it wont fill the pockets of government officials.

Minister of Tourism and Sports,Navin Dissanayake stated that the tourism sector was able bring in one million tourists to the country and that the target has been increased to 1.5 million or more. He further added that there is  a need for long term plans and that this can be achieved under the leadership of our president.
The President presented scholarships to students who successfully completed the course at the Hotel School.
