Qatar police arrest 12 Lankans who were displaced owing to fire

Twelve Sri Lankans who were displaced owing to a fire in Qatar have been taken into custody by the Police.

The fire which destroyed a line of wooden houses on 8th of this month in the Seheliya region in Qatar displaced 350 Sri Lankan nationals working for a Cleaning company.

All of their belongings were destroyed in the fire and Qatari authorities have taken steps to provide accommodation for them elsewhere.

Speaking to News1st , Chairman of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, Nandapala Wickramasooriya said that they were arrested for carrying out a strike action.

However, the 12 arrested persons have denied the allegations.

Nandapala Wickramasooriya added that the arrested Sri Lankans are to be returned to Sri Lanka.

He further added that he has instructed officials of the Bureau of Foreign Employment to carry out investigations into the matter immediately.
