L.K. Wimalachandra who served as a Commissioner in the Commission to investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption has stepped down from his position.
According to Wimalachandra, the decision to step down was prompted by the adoption of the 19th amendment to the constitution. He noted his decision will allow new members to be appointed to the commission.
The top brass of the bribery commission currently consists of Chairman S. Balapatabendi and Commissioner Dr. Jayantha Wickramaratne.
Director General of the commission Dilrukshi Dias Wickremesinghe noted that the decision taken by Wimalachandra to step down from his position will not affect investigations that are currently underway. She however noted that the decision will affect the manner in which cases are filed in court following investigations carried out by the bribery commission.
She added that due to this decision court cases regarding 2 major cases were not filed yesterday.
