Venerable Galagama Sri Attadhassi Thero was elected as Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siam Sect on the consensus reached by 18 Monks of the Special Sangha Council convened on Friday (May 08th).
The Chief Prelate who was elected today will become the 21st Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siam Sect.
According to our correspondent, the Anunayake of the Asgiri Chapter was unanimously elected by the Sangha Council to the post of Chief Prelate. Subsequent to being elected as the Chief Prelate, the Diyawadana Nilame of the Temple of the Sacred tooth relic presented an Atapirikara to the new Chief Prelate.
Most Ven. Galagama Sri Attadhassi Thero speaking to the media stated that he had been bestowed with this position due to the services rendered by him as well as his age. He went on to note that since no one else came forward during this juncture the Sangha Council unanimously elected him as the Chief Prelate.
The Most venerable was ordained in 1936 at the age of 14. The Thero who received his piriven education for a decade at the Sri Dharmaraja Pirivena in Matale since 1937, went on to achieve distinctions in Pali, Sinhala, Culture and Tamil subjects in 1947.
The Most venerable thero went onto achieve accolade after accolade in the area of spiritual studies and was later appointed as the Anu Nayake of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siam Sect.
