Passengers returning in the new year meet with disappointment – News1st investigates transport woes (Watch Report)

News 1st on Wednesday inquired into the passenger transport facilities being provided to the public returning from their hometowns after the new year.

Our first stop was to investigate the train transport made available to the commuters. Long distance and short distance train travel was hampered on Wednesday morning.

A similar situation was witnessed at the Gampaha, Ganemulla and Kalutara North train stations. Commuters, in large numbers, are expected to make their way back to the cities after their new year holidays.

It was also reported that a sufficient amount of buses were not in operation for those returning after the new year. Our provincial correspondents reported that there was a delay in long distance and short distance bus services on Wednesday.

There was also a heavy traffic congestion reported on the access point in Matara on the Expressway.
