Two hundred and eighty three (283) persons who were driving under the influence of alcohol have been arrested countrywide in the past 24 hours which ended at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14.
Police Headquarters stated that among those arrested were 141 motorcyclists,115 drivers of three-wheelers, three bus drivers and twelve lorry drivers.
The police said that since the commencement of the programme on April 11, 605 persons driving under the influence of alcohol have been arrested.
Further, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that they intend to request the court to temporarily suspend the licenses of drivers who were arrested over the past few days.
