During an inauguration programme aimed at providing a certified price for rubber in Mawanella, views were expressed over the 19th Amendment to the constitution along with other matters of political importance.

Minister of Plantation Industries Lakshman Kiriella stated that

It was the UNP who opted to change the electoral system in 2002. Dinesh Gunawardena who was attempting to create a new electoral system for 13 years, is unsuccessful so how can you do it in 100 days. Linking the constitutional amendment and the electoral system will cause injustice to the citizens of the country.

When handing over certificates to those completed self-employed training in Dompe, UNP Western Provincial Councillor Harshana Rajakaruna made the following statement.

He stated that the 19th Amendment will affect the country in a positive manner, since a new country will be born – without corruption and fear – and therefore the political parties and MPs should take full responsibility in developing the country for a good cause .

Minister of Higher Education Kabir Hashim made a statement at a program held to provide a certified price for rubber in Mawanella

He stated:

The opposition leaders made a proposal three weeks ago. When our government came in to power, the contracts were given to five people without calling for bids and not even following the proper tender procedures. Come next week, it will not be known as the Northern Expressway. It will be known as the Central Kandy Expressway. We will call for tenders next week and commence the process.

MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena noted that if the 19th Amendment to the constitution is to take place, the 20th amendment to the constitution also needs to take place. The people’s choice is important, rather than the majority of the Parliament.
