Minister of Finance Ravi Karunayake inspected the headquarters of Sri lanka Customs at around 11 Saturday night. The minister thereafter spoke with customs officials.
Minister Karunanayake said that they can see that there are some shortcomings.He also said:
I have told the Director General to address these issues and create a more efficient and speedy service for our customers. I believe that the country will be able to save more if clearance can be done within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Director General of Sri Lanka Customs Jagath Wijeyweera said that he believes this is the first time that a minister carried out an inspection at night, adding that the customs is now open around the clock.
