The Sri Lanka Army, under the directives of the President, has declared a General Amnesty period to soldiers who had gone AWOL or Absent Without Official Leave.
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe elaborated on this move at a media briefing convened at the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday.
Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe expressed the following views:
“… As soldiers who had gone Absent Without Official Leave were seeking a relief, the President had instructed the Army Commander to declare a general amnesty and that necessary prerequisites be made. The amnesty period would be from April 2 to April 16. Deserters who had not reported to work for more than three months without authorised leave would be legally dismissed from service during this general amnesty period. This can be done by visiting their respective regiments …”
