Two former deputy ministers of the UPFA government, were produced in court on Monday, March 23.
Former Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama, appeared before the Baddegama Magistrate’s Court once again on Monday, in connection with the accusation that he attacked and damaged a UNP election stage in the Waduramba area.
Defence Counsel requested court on Monday, to release Muthuhettigama’s passport, which has been impounded.
However, the Magistrate noted that the passport would not be released, adding that should the need arise, the defence could make a request through a motion, and that it would be considered.
The case is to be taken up again on April 27 , awaiting instructions from the Attorney General.
Meanwhile, UPFA MP Sarana Gunawardena, was produced before Attanagalla Magistrate Kavindya Nanayakkara on Monday, March 23.
MP Gunawardena is the defendant in a case where he is accused of having obtained Rs.9.6 million from an individual as payment for a stock of metal and then failing to provide the metal.
The magistrate ordered that MP Sarana Gunawardena be returned to remand custody until March 30.
