A public forum on the draft bill of Right to Information organised by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka together with USAID was held in Colombo on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Affairs Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu said that the Right to Information is a liberty and not a licence.
He further added that right to Information is not a licence and should not be confused as a licence to get every single bit of information your curiosity might irk you into wanting. Also, right to Information must not be used as a means by which governance and governments is made more difficult or in which officialdom is harassed by requests for information that are really quite irresponsible at the end of the day. It is a liberty, not a licence.
