Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to Sri Lanka, is travelling to Jaffna on Saturday to open a cultural centre built using funds from the Indian government.
Prior to this visit to Jaffna, the Indian PM will also be paying religious respects to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Ajith Perera stated that Modi will also be the chief guest in opening the the railway line between Mannar and Madawachchiya. The deputy minister added that Modi will also be holding discussions with a few political parties today.
Police say that a special traffic plan will be initiated in Colombo for the day in view of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka. ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that vehicular movement in a few routes will be limited accordingly.
The times and details of the closed restricted roads are as follows:
3:15 pm to 4:30 pm – Vehicular movement will be restricted from Galle Face, N.S.A. junction, Lotus Road, Ceramic Junction through Slave Island areas.
6:15 pm to 6:45 pm – Vehicular movement will be restricted from Galle Face, Colpetty Junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, Liberty Junction, R. A. de Mel road through Thurstan road to the official residence of the Indian High Commission.
8:15 pm to 9:00 pm – Special traffic plan will be in effect from the official residence of the Indian high commission through Thurstan Road, O.J.C junction, Glasshouse junction, Horton Place, D.S. Sennanayake junction, Baseline to New Kelaniya bridge Borella Orugodawatta junction, Katunayake expressway to Katunayake Bandaranayake International Airport.
Police media spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara requests the public to use substitute routes during the given times.
