Deputy Minister of Highways, Higher Education and Investment Eran Wickramaratne says that the investment projects which were commissioned by the previous government will continue, unless a valid reason is cited for its termination.

He made this statement at a conference held in Colombo on Thursday.

He said that Sri Lanka has a long-standing relationship with China, wants to continue to build on that relationship notwithstanding problems we are having on particular investments with Chinese companies.

He went on to note that China is the emerging economic power in Asia and that the future of Sri Lanka is also tied with the Chinese economy.

He said:

The policy on foreign ownership will remain unchanged because it was basically decided by consensus between the previous government and opposition. But clearly I recognise there are issues to do, particularly with the taxation on leasing, and that is something we certainly will review, he added.

He further noted that what the previous government had initiated will be continued, unless there has a very good reason to either review it or to discontinue it

The conference titled Governance, Regulation and investment the way forward saw the participation of several dignitaries.
