Motorcyclists will be prohibited from wearing full-face helmets with effect from March 21.
In a media briefing convened on Monday, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that 127 crimes had been committed while wearing full-face helmets in the past year alone.
SSP Ajith Rohana said that as a result, the decision to ban full-face helmets will apply to pillion riders as well.
The police spokesperson further noted that the punishment for first time offenders will be a fine of Rs.1000,for second time offenders, a fine of Rs.2000 rupees and for third time offenders, a fine of Rs.3500 adding that third time offenders will have their driving licenses revoked.
