Afghanistan made their debut in the ICC 2015 on Wednesday against pool A opponents Bangladesh. however the Afghans were not able to pull off an upset in their first game as Bangladesh clinched a 105 run win at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.
Winning the toss and batting first Bangladesh got off to a steady start with an opening stand of 47 runs. Tamim Iqbal was the first of all as he was caught behind off the bowling of Mirwais Ashraf for 19 runs.
Three more wickets fell in quick succession before Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim were able to resurrect the innings. both players scored half centuries and their efforts guided Bangladesh to a total of 267 runs before being bowled out.
Mushfiqur Rahim top scored for Bangladesh with 71 runs while Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with 63 runs. Four Afghan bowlers including Shapoor Zadran picked up two wickets a piece.
Chasing a target of 268 runs the Afghans got onto a disastrous start losing their top three batsmen for three runs. Bangladesh looked poised for an early victory however Samiullah Shenwari and skipper Mohammad Nabi ensured that the game was kept alive. together they put on 58 runs for the 6th wicket. they scored 42 and 44 respectively.
However, after their fall the Afghan batting line crumbled and they were eventually bowled out for 162 runs in 42.5 overs.
Mushfiqur Rahim walked away with the man of the match award.
