Parliament was adjourned for the second time today for a further 10 minutes.

Our parliament correspondent says that Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa decided to adjourn parliament for 10 minutes after tensions flared in the chamber.

Earlier today parliamentary proceedings were suspended for 20 minutes by Speaker of Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa.

According to our Parliamentary correspondent Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made a special statement on Friday on the issue surrounding the position of Chief Justice.

The Prime Minister revealed that there was an issue with regard to the manner in which Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake was flawed. He noted that motion filed in Parliament did not directly call for the impeachment of the Chief Justice and merely called for a probe into alleged irregularities.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had revealed to Parliament that based on this senior lawyers concurred that Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake was not removed from her position. The Prime Minister had also noted that there was tension building up in the legal community about the presence of Chief Justice Mohan Peiris at temple trees when the results of the Presidential election were being announced.

Following the statement of PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, members present within the chamber had began to speak out, it was then that Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala requested Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa to conduct a party leaders meeting.

The speaker of Parliament then took steps to suspend Parliamentary proceedings for 20 minutes to conduct the Party Leaders meeting ..
