Eight lawyers have given written submissions over the interpretation requested by President Mahinda Rajapaksa from the Supreme Court, whether he could contest a third term in office
Two of the lawyers, Attorneys-at-Law Kumarapperuma Arachchige Upul Indika Kumarapperuma, and Kotawila Vidanage Janaranjana have filed motions requesting court that they be allowed to make oral submissions in an open court.
However, the Registrar of the Supreme Court said that he cannot reveal the contents of the written submissions that were made.
The deadline given by the Supreme Court for making written submissions in this regard ended at 3 p.m. on Friday.The President had requested the Supreme Court to file the decision on the matter by Monday.
