A shortage of fuel has been reported from Matara and its surrounding areas.
According to our correspondent, the shortage was witnessed in small scale petrol sheds in Matara.
When News1st made inquiries regarding the fuel shortage from the Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation, Managing Director, Susantha Silva, said that no issue were reported in the distribution of fuel.
However, he noted that there was a significant drop in the amount of fuel purchased on the day in which the budget was presented to Parliament. He elaborated that usually around 2000 metric tonnes of fuel is purchased from the CPC, however, only 600 tonnes of fuel had been purchased on that day.
The Managing Director of the CPC stated they will look into the matter.
