Public petition campaign commences demanding Fonseka’s right to vote

A public petition campaign demanding that the Leader of the Democratic Party, Sarath Fonseka, be given the right to vote, commenced in Kirindiwela on Friday.

A group of politicians from the Democratic Party participated at the inauguration of the public petition campaign, which aims to collect one million signatures.

Democratic Party Councillor of Western PC, Susil Kindelpitiya said:

[quote]What they have done is truly astounding. They have done it out of fear to prevent him from contesting the Presidential Election. You may follow different political parties and ideologies, but forget that for a moment. Forget that and think for a moment about how just it is to deprive the leader who rescued this country, of his right to vote.[/quote]
