The voting for the Uva Provincial Council elections have concluded a short while ago.

Polling which commenced at 7 a.m. concluded at 4 p.m.

According to Badulla District Secretary and Returning Officer Rohana Keerthi Dissanayake, the recorded voter turnout in Badulla of the Uva Provincial Council polls is reported to be over 60%.

The Returning officer of Moneragala, 62% of the eligible voters had cast their votes in the district
by 3 p.m.

According to our News1st Uva Bureau correpondents, the ballot boxes have been taken to the counting centres.

Ten accepted political parties and four independent groups are contesting the Uva Provincial Council
poll from the Badulla District. While twelve (12) accepted political parties and seven independent
groups are contesting from the Moneragala District.

A total of 32 councillors are to be elected from the nine polling divisions in the Badulla District and
the three polling divisions in the Moneragala District.

Eighteen councillors are to be elected from the Badulla District while fourteen are to be elected from
the Moneragala district. 942,730 people are registered to vote in the Uva Provincial Council Poll.

Six hundred and nine thousand nine hundred and sixty six (609,966) people were registered to vote in
the Badulla district while the Moneragala district had 332, 764 registered voters.

Polling took place at 318 polling stations in the Moneragala district on Saturday.
