Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Muttu Sivalingam made the following remarks on the accident which occurred in Bandarawela on Wednesday evening which killed one person and injured 24 others, including UPFA Uva Provincial Council  candidate Senthil Thondaman.
The accident occurred when Senthil was returning to the Bandarawela town following election campaigning. I do not however see this as an accident. His driver has caused this accident deliberately. This is a conspiracy. He has worked with several people prior to this and is now working with Senthil as an additional secretary. I see this as contract given to him to assassinate Senthil for money. This may have been planned from since the elections were announced. The police investigation will reveal all.
According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana the accident had taken place while the candidate was engaging in election propaganda activities .

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana noted that the driver connected to the accident had fled the location adding that investigations have been launched to arrest him.

He noted that it is still too early to say whether foul play was involved.
