President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that there are a group of people within the country who object when the country is being developed. The President made this statement during an event held to re-establish the Mohamed Mahroof Foundation.

Late Mohamed Mahroof served as a Minister as well as the Opposition Leader of the CMC before his demise.
The introductory speech made by his daughter Deena Maharoof in Sinhala was appreciated by the President.

At the event, President Rajapaksa made the following observations:
We need national unity. Isolated incidents which take place cannot be categorised as ethnic clashes. There is a group that attempts to portray these incidents as big issues. The Muslim people were chased out of Puttalam and they had to stay away for 20 years, none of the people who speak about human rights spoke about this.
The president also commented on the development taking place in the country
Today the Colombo city is changing. You might be able to see this, there is a group that naturally opposes change. When people were being severely affected by the war, we attempted to change it, even then people were against us. There are people who are against the development of this country as well. However, we must see if this protest is justified or not .
