The Director General of Wildlife stated that the Yala National Park will be closed from September 1 for a month, taking into consideration the dry weather conditions.

Director General of the Department of Wildlife, H.D. Rathnayaka stated:

“As an initial step, we have started distributing water to small lakes with the use of a bowser. We are also providing water,  using water pumps to as distance of 3 to 4 km from the Menik River. We hope that we will the receive the monsoonal rains by the end of October. We will have to provide water till the end of September. It is possible that the drought will aggravate up by the end of September. We have decided to close down the Yala National Park till the end of September because of this reason.”
