Police have commenced investigations into the alleged assault of a Grama Sewa officer by Kurunegala district MP Nimal Wijesingha .
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said the police had obtained a statement from the Grama-Sewa officer regarding assault, adding that the injured officer is currently receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
SSP Rohana added that the Grama Seva official in his statement noted, the assault occurred as a result of not providing a permit for the felling of a Jak Tree.
Newst 1st contacted the the Grama Seva officer of Ambakote, H.G. Sanath Ananda Wimalasiri in this regard. He said the MP intercepted him on the road and abused him in coarse language following which he threatened and assaulted him.
