Asylum-seekers returned by Australia to be produced in court

The 41 Sri Lankan asylum seekers who were handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy by an Australian vessel, are due to be produced in court on Tuesday .

Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana said that the asylum-seekers will be produced before the Galle Magistrate on Tuesday.

Navy Media Spokesperson, Kosala Warnakulasooriya noted that the 41 Sri Lankans were handed over to a patrol vessel and were brought to the Galle Harbour, following which they were handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations on Monday.

The asylum seekers were intercepted  last week by Australian Border Protection Authorities in the seas west of Cocos or Keeling Islands.
