Chief Minister of the Northern Province, C.V. Wigneswaran says that there is no room for geographical divisions in the Northern Province.
He made this statement at an event held in Krishnapuram, Kilinochchi.
“I got to know that several of our officers were acting to create geographical divisions. They were attempting to create a divisions between Tamils in the estates and Tamils here, attempting to say that we would not grant any rights to estate Tamils. I wish to say something to people who act in this way. The same way that you consider the estate Tamils as aliens, Sinhalese monks too consider you to be aliens. Thereby, I ask that you stop acting in this way. A lot of people from the North and East have gone abroad. We who are left, must struggle to secure our rights. At an instance like this, how is it justified to treat the estate labourers differently? If you feel that you are above them because of who you are, at the very least, provide them relief from a humanitarian perspective. If you do not act in this way, the harm will be very serious. It is our stance that all Tamil-speaking people are the children of one mother, be they from the estates, the Wanni, or any religion, they are all our brothers. The people living in camps in Tamil Nadu are our people too. We should call them to come reside here as well.”
