According to international media a Sri Lankan national was among the 118 illegal residents arrested in Hayatabad Pakistan subsequent to a search operation launched by the Peshawar police.
Sources said that the door-to-door search operation was launched on Sunday following a tip-off about the presence of illegal immigrants.
Speaking to News1st in this regard, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody said that the High Commission is yet to receive a response from the relevant authorities verifying the nationality of the arrested individual.
The High Commissioner added that the Commission has thus far made efforts to contact the Pakistani government officials to verify details pertaining to the individual’s personal details.
Commissioner Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody assured that the High Commission will take swift measures to contact the External Affairs Ministry in Sri Lanka to decide on the future course of action, if the arrested individual is confirmed a Sri Lankan national.
