The police officer who fired a weapon in  Katunayake on Thursday has been interdicted. The Police Media Spokesperson said that disciplinary action will be taken in this regard.

According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana, the police officer had opened fire against a three-wheeler that failed to heed orders. However,  the officer had missed his target and a bystander was shot .

The victim has been identified as thirty-one-year-old Dilip Kumara, a resident of Heenatiyana Nugegodawella. The victims’ had earned a living by preparing coir ropes.

Dilip  a father of two, also takes care of his father who is paralysed. He was shot at while he was in his garden collecting palm-leaves for an alms-giving

According to hospital sources,  the victim is not in a critical condition.
