A fishing vessel that set out to sea met with an accident in the seas off Habaraduwa. According to our correspondent, the boat met with the accident on Monday morning.
The Dineth Putha fishing vessel set out from the Devata Fisheries Harbour at around 4 a.m. Nine fishermen were on the vessel when it set out to sea.
According to the police, a fishermen on board the vessel had called the police emergency hotline and had informed the police that the vessel had overturned at around 6 a.m.
The police had relayed this message to the Habaraduwa Naval Unit which in turn had informed the Galle naval camp. The fishermen who were hanging on top of the remains of their vessel were rescued several hours later by the navy and two other fishing vessels.
The rescued fishermen were safely brought back to land by 12.30 p.m.
