Tension rises as passengers allegedly attempt to assault Badulla locomotive operator

A group of passengers had attempted to assault the locomotive operator of the night mail train that was plying to Badulla. According to the Railway Control Room the night mail train was scheduled to leave for Badulla from the Fort railway station at 8 Tuesday night.

However, the train had left the station behind the scheduled time. A group of people had attempted to assault the locomotive operator  in Gampaha and Ragama.

The Railway Control Room stated that the situation was resolved with the intervention of railway-line security personnel. The Railway Control Room also noted that a train plying along the Colombo – Puttalam railway line had come to a stop due a technical failure in Seeduwa and resulted in train delays.

Meanwhile, several office trains were delayed on Tuesday morning as a result a group of passengers had attempted to attack the engineer of the Mahawa – Colombo office train service.

The passengers had attempted to attack the locomotive operator when the Mahawa – Colombo office train which departed at dawn Tuesday morning was about twenty minutes late when it reached the Polgahawela Station.

Tuesday’s delays were prompted by an incident where a group of passengers are alleged to have attacked the engineer of the Mahawa – Colombo office train service Tuesday morning.

Two persons have been arrested on suspicion over the incident. The locomotive operator is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
