Nikaweratiya man says his wife will be lashed over 1000 times in Saudi

A husband has requested the authorities to intervene and rescue his wife who has been ordered one thousand two hundred lashes by a Saudi Court. The  husband named Chandrasiri Weerasekera told Newsfirst that his wife has been imposed a twelve-year prison term in addition to the 1200 lashes.

The accused who is currently detained in the Malaas Prison in Jeddah is a resident of Waduwassa in Nikaweratiya.

Sunila Manel left to Saudi to work as a housemaid in 2006. The Saudi Police arrested her several years ago on charges of stealing household equipment.

When an inquiry was made from Deputy General Manager and Media Spokesperson of the Foreign Employment Bureau Mangala Randeniya in this regard, he told Newsfirst that it is the law of the country on which all foreign workers are educated on prior to leaving for employment.

Speaking further he said that everyone should be aware of this situation.
