The University of Peradeniya has announced plans to investigate unidentified matter from space that crashed onto the roof of a house in the Ragala Estate in Walapane. Researchers will be working based on the assumption that the unknown object was a fragment of a meteor.
Residents in the area stated that a dent, six inches in circumference, was created on the roof of the house following the crash.
Residents added that the unidentified matter had crashed on Sunday at about midnight, causing a a fire in the house.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Athula Senaratne said they believe this object was meteorite.
Director of the Medical Research Institute Dr. Anil Samaranayake said that if the fragments are directed to them for an investigation , they are prepared to do so.
