Four express trains scheduled for Friday morning were cancelled due to the locomotive engineers strike.

The Railway Control Room said that the trains due to depart from Colombo Fort Friday morning to Batticaloa at 6.10, 6.30 to Matara, 9.00 a.m. to Kandy and 9.45 a.m. to Badulla were cancelled in lieu of the strike.

The Railway Control Room added that the slow train scheduled to travel to Mahawa at 10 a.m. was also cancelled, further noting that several train routes will be delayed Friday.

Minister of Transport Kumara Welgama said that though the strike action was being conducted by a small group of locomotive engineers, many train routes are active Friday
