Foreigners arrested for allegedly trespassing on Southern Expressway

A foreign couple who entered the yet unopened Matara-Pinnaduwa section on the Southern Expressway without authorisation, on a motorcycle, have been arrested.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that they were arrested while travelling towards Colombo after removing the barriers at the Pinnaduwa entrance.

The suspects were released on a surety bail of Rs.100,000 rupees after being produced before the Galle Magistrate Courts.

However, the court ordered them to re-appear before  courts on February 17. The court also ordered the police to produce before the court the individual who provided the suspects with the motorcycle.

Meanwhile, an individual who entered the Southern Expressway on a bicycle from the Gelanigama area has also been arrested. The Police Media Unit said that he had entered via the security fence in the area.

The suspect who was arrested by officers of the Gelanigama Police checkpoint has been handed over to the Bandaragama Police for further investigations.
