External Affairs Ministry says US Ambassador-at-Large was asked to ‘re-schedule’

The Ministry of External Affairs rejects reports alleging that Sri Lankan authorities refused a visa for US Ambassador- at-Large for global women’s issues, Catherine Russell.

A high-ranking official at the Ministry of External Affairs said, that they merely requested the Ambassador to reschedule her visit.

Foreign media reported quoting a statement by the US Embassy in Colombo that the Ministry of External Affairs had rejected her visa. In its statement, the embassy said “Ambassador Russell’s mandate is to promote stability, peace and development.”

Ambassador Russell was due to engage in a two-day visit on February 10 and 11.
