The Ministry of Education has decided to increase the school services levy to a maximum amount of Rs.50.
Secretary to the Ministry, Anura Dissanayake stated that this decision was reached in a bid to ensure school development through school development committees.
Accordingly, it was the school development committees that were vested with the decision to make this revision of levy.
Thus far, Rs. 5 was charged per month as the school services levy.
The secretary to the ministry stated that students who were unable to pay this amount would be released from making this payment upon submitting a letter to this effect from the area Grama Seva officer.
