Indo-Lanka Joint Fisheries Committee to meet for the first time

The Indo-Lanka Joint Fisheries Committee will convene for the first time on Thursday morning.

The committee which was appointed on Wednesday will convene in New Delhi in India.

The Director General of the Fisheries Department in Sri Lanka, Nimal Hettiarachchi, Consultant to the Fisheries Department Dr. S. Subasinghe and Additional Solicitor General, Suhada Gamlath will represent Sri Lanka at the meeting.

Meanwhile, Minister of Fisheries, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne met Tamil Nadu State Council member Manishanker Aiyyer on Wednesday night.

The Ministry of Fisheries said representatives of the local fishing sector participated at this meeting.The ministry further said that issues related to fishing in both Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka were subjected to broad discussion at the meeting.

Meanwhile, a meeting between representatives of the fisheries unions in Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu is due to take place on Thursday morning.
