Met Dept. says deep depression has entered the country

The Department of Meteorology says that the deep depression has entered the country and is now gradually moving towards Puttalam.

Duty Meteorologist of the Met. Department K.D. Sujeewa said that therefore the northern region of the country will experience showers and windy conditions.


Our correspondent said that the Mulaitivu district experienced showers accompanied by strong winds due to the deep depression.

Daily life of residents has been disrupted while fishermen abstained from setting out to sea.

The Disaster Management Centre of the Mullaitivu District said that those affected by the inclement weather have been placed in camps and measures have been taken to provide relief.


The Kilinochchi district experienced rainy conditions for its fourth day today. Our correspondent said that there was a decrease in the number of students attending schools today as well.

It is also learnt that several low lands have been submerged due to the showers.


Continuous rain persisted in the district of Vavuniya throughout  Monday.


Meanwhile,  our correspondent in Trincomalee reported that rainy weather conditions persisted throughout the day on Tuesday. Our correspondent added that fishermen have not set out to sea while those residing in the coastal belt have been relocated to safer locations due to rough seas.


Our correspondent in Puttalam said that rainy weather conditions are persisting in the area while the seas remain rough. Fishermen have refrained from setting out to sea.
