Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera expressed his views on the United National Party held at the Moratuwa-Mutwal Fishing Harbour on Thursday.

The event was held to distribute life jackets for 300 fishermen that set out to sea from the Moratuwa – Mutwal fishing harbour.

Speaking at the event  Minister of Disaster Management, Mahinda Amaraweera said,   “One of the most powerful councillors from the UNP who obtained the highest number of votes from the party, joined our party yesterday on the eve of provincial council elections. Several others have also held discussions to join, and not only provincial councillors.

This also includes three parliamentarians in the Southern and Western provinces. They want to contest under our ticket. However, they are asking for powerful positions, therefore there is no agreement as yet to hand over the chief ministerial positions of either of these provincial councils.

We gave the Wayamba Provincial Council. Wayamba made a good decision. We will give the chief ministerial position to a senior in the party. However, I know such a request has been made.”
