COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe says 50,000 LP gas cylinders will be released to the market today.

The Minister said that 80,000 gas cylinders were released yesterday.

He further noted that 100,000 cylinders are scheduled to be released continuously from Monday.

Minister Samarasinghe also said that a ship carrying 3,700 metric tons of gas is due to arrive in the island tomorrow. Another shipment of 3,900 metric tons is expected on the 26th of February, followed by a further 3,700 metric tons on the 28th of February.

He emphasized that as customers have paid a specified amount and made a security deposit to purchase yellow gas cylinders, it is the responsibility of the relevant company to supply gas to them.

The Minister further stated that the government will take firm action against any attempts to create a crisis, exploit consumers, or secure unfair business gains.

He further stated that since consumers using yellow gas cylinders currently in short supply are unable to exchange them for blue cylinders, the Litro Gas Lanka Ltd has planned to release blue cylinders to the market from the 12th of March to enable affected customers to obtain Litro gas.
